"You're what?"
"Pregnant."
There was a stunned silence that lasted much longer than Luna had expected. Admittedly, this was rather surprising. They had had no plans for having any further children, especially at such an advanced age. Also, at her age, a pregnancy would likely not go smoothly. Frowning, she leant forward and placed a hand on Harry's shoulder.
"Harry?"
"How?"
She couldn't help laughing. "Harry, after twenty years and four other children, I would hope that I do not have to explain the facts of life to you."
Harry's eyebrows knit together. They were showing a bit of grey to them these days, along with the sides of his hair, which Luna had been finding incredibly attractive. In all honestly, that was probably the why of how she had ended up pregnant in her forties. As for the how… Well, they had just celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary. There had been candles, champagne, and chocolate-coated strawberries to entice them. Not that Luna had needed it.
"That night in London?"
Harry's voice sounded a little weaker than usual. Taking a firmer grip of his shoulder, Luna guided him over to sit on one of the soft loveseats in their living room. Sitting down next to him, she wrapped her arm around him and pulled him close.
"At the hotel. With the roses and champagne." She smiled at the memory. "You are such a romantic sometimes."
When Harry turned to meet her eyes, he still looked confused. Luna knew from past experience that she had to give this news time to sink in. He had not expected to become a father the first time she had conceived, and he certainly hadn't been expecting it this time, either. It was bound to be a shock.
"I… Another baby?"
Luna nodded. "Another baby."
"I, er… Wow."
Leaning back into the chair, Harry scrubbed a hand over his face. Luna began rubbing her fingers over his shoulder, a small gesture of comfort that she knew he would appreciate. They sat there in companionable silence for a few minutes. Luna's mind wandered to how they would tell the other children. James would probably be the easiest. He had just graduated Hogwarts the previous year, and was currently working as an apothecary assistant in Diagon Alley. Pandora, their second eldest, had started her seventh year at Hogwarts, so it most likely would not be such a good idea to disturb her immediately with the news. And as for the twins… Well, twelve-year-olds tended to not be that interested in siblings, did they? Lorcan and Lysander would be happy enough to hear of it, she was sure, even if she was much further along than she would normally have been when informing children that they were to be expecting a sibling.
"A baby."
Luna nearly jumped. She had been so lost in her own thoughts that she had almost forgotten the discussion she had been having with Harry.
"We're having a baby."
She smiled. "Yes, Harry. Another baby."
The smile that Harry turned to her warmed her from the inside out. It was infectious, causing Luna's own smile to widen. Harry's eyes sparkled as he ran them down her body.
"God, I love you."
Leaning back against the arm of the loveseat, Luna laughed into the kiss Harry pressed to her lips. Harry's hands – large and rough from his years spent with the Aurors – circled her waist, his thumbs rubbing patterns on her hips. He deepened the kiss, pulling her to him.
"Harry," she gasped, arching to touch him further. "Harry, I believe that this may be why we ended up in this position again."
He chuckled, running his lips along her collarbone. "There's a few positions I would like to get you into before we aren't capable anymore, you know."
Luna's laughter mixed with his as he scooped her up into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held tightly as she was carried to the bedroom. This baby may have been unexpected, but it certainly wasn't going to be unwelcome.
